AN EVENING FOR OKIGBO PRINCEWILL SET TO HOLD IN OWERRI, OCTOBER 19TH, 2019.

The friends of the Late Princewill Nnaemeka Okigbo, in a bid to mark the one year memorial of his demise, are organizing a literary evening in his honour, in conjunction with the Ngiga Book Club, Owerri. The event is tagged: “An Evening for Okigbo: Evening of open mic, poetry, solo drama, music and art exhibitions.”
Okigbo is renowned for his love of literature and an unnatural zeal to always reach out to his friends. He led a very eventful short life and died on the 5th of June 2018 from ulcerous complications. In June 2019, the friends of Okigbo instituted a contest, the Princewill Okigbo Prize for Short Story, in his honour, with the theme of “reaching out”, “of touch”, of how our “actions and in actions” affect the life of others albeit negative or positive and of “helping one another and not helping one another.” The judges for the contest are: Ogochukwu Ukwueze a renowned lecturer from the Department of English and Literary Studies, University of Nigeria, Nsukka and I.S. Jones an American / Nigerian poet and music journalist.
The evening will feature open mic performances, announcement of the short story contest winners, and the unveiling of the documentary film, “One Good Neighbour: A Documentary on the Life and Times of P. N Okigbo.” There will be music performances from the hit-makers, Rab-I, Genesis, Kizzy and others.
The event, An Evening for Okigbo, will hold on Saturday, 19th October, 2019, at The Hive, Plot 106, Okigwe Road, Orji, Owerri Imo State. Time: 3-6pm.
The event has enjoyed kind sponsorships from people who are committed in keeping the memory of Okigbo alive, including supports from Rev. Fr. Emmanuel Konyeaso, Mr. Justin Oparaugo and Mr. Princewill Onyekpuwa. To them and many more, the central working committee has remained ever grateful.
