Abuja Literary Fest 2019.

The Abuja Literary Festival is on for 2019 and it is happening from July 11 to 13. After the largely successful inaugural occasion in July last year, the arts outfit is back again this time with a host of interesting events such as Panel Discussions on a wide range of topics like: Satire, Advocacy and Civic Engagement, Political Reportage, Press Freedom and Responsibility, Sexual Harassment in Nigeria’s Public and Private Spaces, Conflicts, Resentments and Historical Narratives and lots more. Each of the panel discussions can be seen to address societal problems and is in line with the theme; Arts and Social Consciousness.

The venue for the events will be the Exhibition Pavilion, Area 10, Garki. (Opposite, Radio House).

Book readings will also come up as well as Spoken Word Performances, both by popular names in the literary sphere. Expected guests for the occasions is a start studded list that includes: Esther Mirembe, Ope Adedeji, Tolu Daniel, Kukhogo Iruesiri Samson, Richard Alli, Logan February, Eketi Edima Ette, T.J. Benson, Chuma Nwokolo, Aishat Abiri, Eghosa Imaseun, Toni Kan, Ayodele Olofintuade, Osasu Igbinedion, Abubakar Adam Ibrahim and others.

There will be a showcase of Arts by I Can Draw Africa as well. Attendees will witness a Grand Slam Performance that will reward the winner with a sum of ₦200,000. You should also look forward to buying those books you have always coveted and that have managed to elude you at the Book Sales stands.

Prose Writing Masterclasses that is hosted by Tom Sleigh, January Gill O’Neil, Christopher Merill and Emily Rabotean will be witnessed during the course of the festival and a Poetry Writing Masterclass as well. A Children’s Writing Masterclass will also be held for those interested.

Get ready to dance to great Music Performances by The Isomers, a rock band based in Abuja and Jarell Ebuka who is also an Abuja based artiste. Watch a Play which will be a reenactment of Wedlock of the gods, Zulu Sofola’s classic.

A movie will be screened before the festival will round off with a festive time out that will be all about partying the Nigerian way. The event is sponsored by Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany, Abuja, Roving Heights, YNaija and others.
