Burdened.
i
Don’t hang your hopes
On the neck of a man
Or they become ropes
To strangle him
When he cannot
Look you in the eye
And say:
‘I lost my way’.
ii
your depression is your shadow
the moon behind you stalks, yes; ‘I will be here tomorrow’
you realize what holds you back
from a shooting rampage
is not the gun you lack,
but your fingers you’ve chewed off.
iii
I know fear, Stared it in the eye, Went to bed with it On nights that doesn’t end with dawn, Nights you carry in your pocket All through the day.
